When the Schulz family passed through Castle Garden after arriving in New York on August 13, 1846, they indicated that they were were planning to travel to Ohio. However, they are enumerated on the 1850 United States Census in Alexander, Genesee, New York (located to the East of Buffalo). By the time of the 1860 United States census they had moved to Hudson (now Lyons) in Walworth County, Wisconsin.

  • No record of their having owned property in New York has been found.

  • Simon Schulz was born in New York.
  • Katherine Schulz, the oldest daughter, was not living with the family at the time of the 1860 census. No further records pertaining to her have yet been found.
